As the Chief Economist and Chief Data and Analytics Officer for SANDAG, Ray Major leads the Office of Data Science and Analytics. He is responsible for agency-wide utilization of empirical information as a regional asset.
Ray supports many regionally significant initiatives including the 2021 Regional Plan (5 Big Moves); the San Diego Grand Central Station and Airport Connectivity project; and the Otay Mesa East Port of Entry project.
Ray has over 20 years of private sector experience as a senior executive serving in a variety of leadership roles in private industry including Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Nielsen and CEO at Halo Business Intelligence where he focused on data, analytics, and business intelligence applications to help fortune 500 companies gain insights and make better use of data through advanced analytics.
Ray is currently serving as a San Diego County East County Economic Development Council Board member; an Industry Fellow for the Halicioğlu Data Science Institute (HDSI) Industry Fellows Program, University of California, San Diego; and a member of the San Diego Union Tribune Econometer Panel. He holds a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Economics from San Diego State University.
